Britons looking to buy
online travel insurance before jetting off abroad could be lured by the charms of winter sports in New Zealand.
According to figures from Statistics New Zealand, over a million Australian travellers have already visited the neighbouring country so far this year, many of whom enjoyed its ski season.
Hotel and hostel providers in Queenstown report that the number of visitors leapt by as much as 100 per cent compared to last winter.
Novotel Queenstown Lakeside general manager Jim Moore told the Southland Times: "It's looking very strong I think. Unless something really drastic happens, the Aussie market will be very resilient. Most of them are already pre-paid."
British backpackers could follow their Australian counterparts to the land of the long white cloud, many of whom could take out
worldwide travel insurance as protection.
The number of Aussie travellers visiting New Zealand has doubled in the past ten years, Statistics New Zealand also found.
