Backpackers planning to save money on accommodation by camping in their cars could still buy
gap year travel insurance.
AZCentral.com reports that the concept of 'car camping' falls between the relative luxury of having running water and a stove for the night and making do with a backpack and a sleeping bag to sleep under the stars.
Dave Baker, owner of an outdoor supplies store in Tucson, Arizona, chooses car camping as it enables him to set a base in a stunning location and then spend several days exploring the region on foot with his backpack.
Chris Head, another car camper who works as a rental manager at the Arizona Hiking Shack in Phoenix, Arizona, told the website: "We live in arguably the best state in the country for this type of camping. There are hundreds and hundreds of campgrounds easily accessible by two-wheel-drive cars. You don't even need a truck."
Backpackers who may have bought
online travel insurance and are looking for a little more comfort and a communal atmosphere could stay in a budget hostel.
