Travellers are urged to buy
online travel insurance as they plan trips to Magnetic Island off the coast of Queensland, Australia.
Magnetictimes.com reports that Tourism Queensland is to spend $40,000 promoting the island after a local crocodile problem forced the closure of several local beaches at considerable financial cost to many nearby businesses. The crocodile was released 50km away but nevertheless found its way to Magnetic Island. Now that the danger has passed, local authorities are keen to reinvigorate their flagging tourism sector.
Desley Boyle, the tourism minister, told the website: "The campaign will profile package deals offered by a range of Magnetic Island operators, accommodation providers and tour companies through online and print promotions."
Ms Boyle added that the campaign was primarily targeting Queensland residents, but backpackers and other international travellers would also be in the campaign's sights.
