Backpackers looking to reduce the weight of their baggage by carrying dehydrated food could also buy
online travel insurance.
The News Tribune reports that the Tacoma Mountaineers in Washington state is holding a workshop this Sunday March 8th to offer tips on how to reduce pack weight while hiking.
Backpackers in the area who register for the event will learn about how to use a dehydrator to remove water from food products while maintaining strong flavours.
Christine Connors, who has written several books on trail cuisine with her husband, told the paper: "When you're on the trail it's easy to get tired of your food if you buy from a store. You're going to get tired of eating the same granola bars or the same store-bought entrees."
She added that while dehydrating food can be time-consuming, it facilitates a healthier, more varied diet and can be applied to many different products.
Many backpackers choose to undertake organised hikes when they visit countries like New Zealand, which is renowned for its dramatic landscapes, and everyone has the option of buying
