As the recession deepens and more people look to avoid the expense of holidaying abroad,
online travel insurance could ensure Brits won't have to give up their dream getaway.
The Local Government Association (LGA) has teamed up with councils to promote holidaying in the UK, as more people struggle to get together the finances to pay for a week in the sun this summer.
"Councils are aware that there are opportunities within the domestic tourism industry, both to help local people save money and have a holiday without it costing the earth," a spokeswoman for the LGA commented.
"We already know that about a fifth of people, according to Visit Britain, who went abroad last year are considering staying in the UK this year," she added.
However, people do not necessarily need to avoid taking a holiday abroad because of money concerns.
One-way travel insurance could be combined with a backpacking trip to significantly cut costs and help Britons head abroad despite the credit crunch.
The UK economy fell into recession at the end of last year, after several banks around the world faced collapse.
