Backpackers and other holidaymakers planning a driving trip through Europe over the next few months have the option of first buying
online travel insurance.
People looking to drive on the continent are advised by the Backpackers Ultimate Guide (Bug) to learn about their intended destination before they get there and make sure they're aware of road signs they may not have seen in the UK and any local laws about parking or tolls.
According to figures from motoring organisation the RAC, around 30 per cent of Britons heading overseas over the next few weeks will be driving on the continent.
Tim Uden, a managing editor at Bug, said: "It only takes a couple of days to get used to driving on the right-hand side, but during those first few days you will need to [pay] extra attention while driving."
He added that people could find it easier to park outside local towns and use buses or trains to head into city centres.
Worldwide travel insurance is always an option.
RAC figures reveal that only about 30 per cent of Britons know how to contact the emergency services when on mainland Europe.
