Australian backpackers could be "colonising" the UK and be getting paid for it, it has been suggested in an attempt to boost sperm donor numbers in Britain.
It has been reported that Australian backpackers are now the biggest single donor group in many of London's clinics and the trend has been welcomed by clinic owners.
"What you get with the 'grand tour' is very enterprising people who look at every single way of making a buck," spokesman Tim Mott told the Mercury.
"We need them. We need that winning spirit and we need some more left-handed batsmen so we're hoping that's in the gene set.
"If you're on the grand tour and you're spending 12 months in the UK, here's something you can do to make a bit of extra money
It's a good cause and if we get enough Australian donors you could end up colonising the UK instead of the other way round."
Work for backpackers in the UK is typically easy to find and safe, although in other parts of the world this is less true.
Online travel insurance can typically protect most backpackers from legal jobs abroad but it is essential to check first in order to be sure.
