According to EssentialTravel.co.uk, British backpackers with
worldwide travel insurance need to take fast action with regard to the US visa system.
The new Electronic System of Travel Authorisation (Esta) requires foreign visitors to the United States to register their travel intentions up to 72 hours before they are due to leave the UK or other country of origin. The new visa application system calls for visitors to be approved or face being refused entry to the flight from the UK. The travel website has issued the warning having found that the majority of British travellers do not know about the new rules.
Stuart Bensusan, insurance director at EssentialTravel.co.uk, said: "We don't expect US immigration officials are going to be lenient to anyone who turns up without the necessary clearance."
The new rules are particularly important given that
online travel insurance will not cover refused entry, although a policy should clearly be a priority for anyone planning a trip to the United States.
Travellers should buy
backpacker travel insurance, while they should also make sure that they register their intent to travel to America.
