According to holiday operator TUI Travel, the two countries are likely to be popular among young travellers next year as they become increasingly concerned about getting the most for their money.
Lynsey Devon, activity sector PR manager for the firm's adventure division, said for those wanting to avoid a long-haul trip, Egypt could be a good choice as it has "so much adventure stuff going on out there".
Travellers are also using new technology to find out as much as they can about their destinations, she added: "They will go on to our websites, for example Imaginative Traveller, and they will ask questions.
"They will use Twitter, Facebook and they will want to meet who they are travelling with before they go as well," she added.
