The British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) has stressed that securing
cheap travel insurance should be considered as vital for as remembering a suitcase.
According to research from American Express nearly a quarter of Britons are deciding to forego any kind of travel insurance for overseas trips in an attempt to save money. This is leaving nearly 15 million people at heightened risk from accidents and mishaps in countries where even routine medical procedures such as resetting broken bones can cost many thousands.
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at Biba, said: "There are many benefits to having travel insurance and it is very cheap. Certainly seek out a travel insurance policy if you are going on holiday."
Mr Trudgill added that
cheap travel insurance can be terrific value for money, with premiums of only a few pounds securing medical cover worth considerable amounts of money.
People heading overseas on adventure holidays should ensure they are covered for specific activities, such as skiing or rock-climbing.
