Gap year travel insurance may benefit naked motorists in Australia

Cheap travel insurance could come in handy for backpackers who take up the offer of a free day's car rental for appearing at an Australian car yard in the nude.

The Brisbane Times reports that Wicked Camper Vans, based in Fortitude Valley in Brisbane, is publicising the offer, although people over the age of 60 will be treated to an additional day's rental free of charge for showing up fully clothed.

There has been a healthy response to the offer, with many backpackers showing up minus their clothes to take advantage of a free day on the road.

Andreas Lindblom, a 22-year-old Swedish backpacker, took up the offer along with fellow Swede Arvid Nilsson and told the paper: "We wanted to have fun and we're students, so it's nice to get a discount. Unfortunately for most of our trip it was raining and we had to wear clothes so that was a shame."

The company has attracted controversy in the past for a series of crude slogans, but the firm said everything is done in the name of harmless fun.

In related news, the global downturn has not discouraged backpackers from visiting Australia's Gold Coast, according to Goldcoast.com.au.
