Environmentally aware
backpacker travel insurance customers may be reassured to hear Brazil's tourism bosses are taking action to protect the country from overdevelopment.
Speaking at Why Brazil? Why Now? Investment Opportunities in Real Estate & Tourism Markets, a spokesperson for the nation's Ministry of Tourism, said safeguarding nature would have environmental and economic benefits.
Laercio Souza, the department's coordinator for inward investment, noted: "We have a very strict environmental law and we don't want what happened on the southern coast of Spain to happen in Brazil."
He added that tourists can enjoy a far wider range of experiences in Brazil if they travel inland, as well as spend time on the country's world-famous beaches.
High mountains, long stretches of underground rivers and caves and 275 waterfalls are just some of the spectacular natural attractions on offer, according to Mr Souza.
