A brawl in a backpacker hostel in Gympie, Queensland, has demonstrated the need for visitors to buy
online travel insurance.
The incident at Gympie's Rainbow Beach hostel resulted in an assault on a policeman when a 21-year-old man pushed the officer to the concrete floor and left him with a shoulder injury that required hospital treatment. The officers were in the midst of arresting another individual in relation to the original call-out when the assault took place.
Several men face court in February next year for a variety of offences ranging from the assault to causing public nuisance, public urination and underage drinking.
Hostels are often favoured by backpackers seeking accommodation at reduced rates and are a great way to meet like-minded travellers and to make friends and share stories. Many places offer a selection of private rooms or shared dormitories, but backpackers are always urged to buy
worldwide travel insurance due to their communal nature.
