Worldwide travel insurance holders looking for good European accommodation may be tempted to check into a Lisbon hostel.
Three in the Portuguese city appear on a new hostelworld.com list of the top ten budget accommodations in the world this month.
An article in the Times insists the hostels are "more like boutique hotels than bunkhouses" and enjoy enviable locations in the heart of the capital.
Hostelworld.com editor Colm Hanratty explained to the newspaper that Lisbon backpacker accommodation stands out because of its emphasis on presentation.
He said: "What I think really separates them from the rest of the world's hostels is the attention to decor. Some are retro, some are boutique, while others are quite modern."
Mr Hanratty added that cleanliness and free Wi-Fi and breakfast also make them a superior choice compared with other budget places.
Hostelworld.com's top hostel is currently Carpe Noctem in Budapest, with the website stating it appeals to travellers "who want to meet people, have a good time and seize the night".
