More people are choosing to save money on their holiday by not buying
online travel insurance or any other kind of policy, according to Confused.com.
While the website said many holidaymakers are overlooking insurance in a bid to reduce expenses with the economy in recession, comparison website moneysupermarket.com warned this can be a dangerous choice.
Andy Leadbetter, managing director for insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said that
worldwide travel insurance or other policies should never be overlooked.
Mr Leadbetter said: "Foregoing cover for trips could be a very costly false economy - especially when cover is available at affordable rates from a host of providers."
He added that it is an important element of any trip, whether travellers need protection against lost money, cancellations or medical treatment.
Research from travel association Abta and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Travel Trends report recently found that nearly half of respondents consider a holiday to be a necessary release from credit crunch concerns.
