Backpackers planning a trip to Tasmania, off the south-east coast of Australia, would do well to buy themselves
online travel insurance first.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, authorities in Tasmania are to launch a campaign encouraging more Australians to visit the island, and they plan to do it by taking a more light-hearted approach to Baz Luhrmann's upcoming romantic epic, Australia. While Tourism Australia has designed a series of cinematic promotional adverts inspired by the film, the Tasmanian campaign will spoof it by saying the same sights can be seen across the water as well.
The paper reports that the Tasmanian campaign will feature a booming voiceover saying: "This summer see lofty mountains, bendy rivers, ancient forests and beautiful beaches - in Tasmania. Bigger than Australia."
Tourism Australia is keen to tackle the danger of imminent global recession reaching the country by orchestrating a big push on the back of the film.
