People following the surge in the number of US tourists visiting Australia could buy
worldwide travel insurance.
American ticket sales for Australian national airline Qantas have surged by 160 per cent in the space of just two weeks in the aftermath of an American promotional campaign.
The G'Day USA festival presented a high-profile list of events throughout major American cities, with Aussie stars including Rachel Griffiths, Nicole Kidman and Eric Bana cropping up in places like New York and San Francisco.
Tourists responded to the festival and reduced ticket prices while Australia.com also experienced a 70 per cent surge in activity. People could also have bought
backpacker travel insurance.
Wally Mariani, Qantas' senior executive vice president of the Americas and Pacific, said: "All world markets are soft and we weren't hoping anywhere near this result, but it was above our wildest dreams."
Nicole Kidman recently co-starred with fellow Aussie Hugh Jackman in sweeping historical romance Australia, which opened in UK cinemas on Boxing Day. The director, Baz Luhrmann, was also present at the G'Day USA festival.
