Cheap travel insurance is an option for people choosing to explore two million acres of new wilderness in the United States.
According to the New York Times, the Omnibus Public Lands Management bill will officially protect land in nine separate states as wilderness, leaving more exploration opportunities for backpackers.
The bill will include protection for nearly 520,000 acres of the Canyonlands in Idaho, 470,000 acres of California mountain ranges and 1,000 miles of rivers.
Democratic senator Barbara Boxer of California told the paper: "California is defined by its environment and this means that we're going to have a percentage of land in the state that's preserved in its original character. I couldn't be more thrilled."
It is the largest area of land to be preserved in 15 years and the new wilderness in California alone could result in 400 jobs.
