People planning to use a new Greyhound bus service in Australia have the option of buying one-way travel insurance before they leave home.
The Daily Examiner reports that a three-month trial Greyhound bus service connecting the town of Yamba with Sydney and Brisbane has started with a busy first load of passengers.
The service is being trialled in the wake of rising demand for transport to the town following the opening of a local Youth Hostel Association venue for backpackers and the popularity of the region among surfers.
Robert Thomas, chief executive officer of Greyhound, told the paper: "The addition of this new stop demonstrates the importance of coach services especially in these tough economic conditions."
He added that the service offered a cost-effective and comfortable journey to the increasingly popular seaside town.
Although set up primarily in response to rising backpacker interest, the service will also be of use to local residents who will have better access to regional towns. Visitors have the option of buying
backpacker travel insurance.
Yamba is largely built around tourism and sits on the Clarence River.
