People who have been inspired to visit America in the aftermath of Barack Obama's election victory should first seek
worldwide travel insurance.
The Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) has said that the election of America's first black president, Barack Obama, has stimulated a renewed global optimism which could encourage more people to visit the United States. George W Bush will leave the White House later this month as one of America's least popular presidents, while president-elect Obama will bring with him an entirely different sensibility that may convince more people to visit what is viewed by many as a changed America.
Frances Tuke, spokesperson for Abta, said: "There is a lot of negative feeling towards George Bush because of the wars on terror and with Barack Obama, for many reasons, people [will] feel a whole new optimism."
A new study from Abta and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Travel Trends report 2000, published last month, revealed that over 20 per cent of 18-34s surveyed said they were more likely to visit America because of Obama's election victory.
