A planned strike by Portuguese airline TAP Portugal, reinforces the need for backpackers to buy
cheap travel insurance.
Hostelbookers.com reports that a pay dispute at the Portuguese airline has led to the cabin crew's union announcing a one-day strike for Saturday 20th December. The strike is likely to cause major disruption for anyone planning to travel to Portugal by air this weekend and travellers have been advised to make other arrangements so as to avoid the potential disruption.
According to the website, the airline said: "TAP senior management is doing all possible to avoid work stoppage by working with the trade union authorities."
Tourists who have tickets booked with the airline for this weekend will be offered a free change of travel date.
People heading out on an overseas trip are advised to always buy
backpacker travel insurance to protect themselves from any mishaps. Many insurance policies also offer flight cancellation protection, a useful feature considering the impact that the credit crunch is having on many budget airlines.
