Deals for
cheap travel insurance could be among the information gleaned on social networking sites.
According to STA Travel, more and more young people are turning to sites like Facebook and Twitter to share travel plans and itineraries.
A spokesperson for the company explains: "Online social networks encourage an exchange of ideas about places to go to and what to do there."
The firm also notes that adventure trips are proving particularly popular this year, with sales rising by over ten per cent so far in 2009.
Even the economic downturn is failing to halt the trend, with the STA Travel spokesperson revealing young people are willing to cut down on extras like car hire and shopping abroad to ensure they can still afford their getaway.
The company's Future of Independent Travel Report, published last month, also found young people are increasingly choosing destinations off the beaten track to indulge in one-upmanship on online blogs.
