Backpackers planning a trip to the Cool Bananas Backpacker Hostel in Agnes Waters in Queensland's Hervey Bay might benefit from
online travel insurance.
News Mail reports that the hostel now offers an additional 36 beds as the result of a successful application to Gladstone regional council from co-owner Greg Jones.
The beds will be added without any structural changes having to be made to the existing property and will help to generate an additional AU$500,000 (£227,749) for the local economy.
Craig Butler, Gladstone regional councillor, told the website: "These extra beds will allow for a lot more people staying, who will bring in money to the whole community. It all adds up to helping tourism and helping liveability."
With the potential for more than 200 extra backpackers visiting the town each week and spending around $70 (£32) on a daily basis, the development could be a real economic stimulant.
Hervey Bay is particularly well-known for its whale-watching opportunities, which frequently attract backpackers and other budget travellers. One-way travel insurance is always an option.
