Tour that lets you retrace the footsteps of the Hollywood greats

An article in the Independent newspaper has highlighted a tour that lets you retrace the footsteps of the Hollywood greats - and see their footprints at the Hollywood Boulevard.

Writer Tom Adair thought that as Emmy Award fever mounted it was an apt time to take a newly-launched Starline bus with 19 stops relevant to Tinseltown history.

Shelling out $30 for a single day bus ride his journey had an auspicious start as he passed the place "where Brad Pitt once handed out flyers dressed as a chicken".

The bus took a detour to Chateau Marmont (where John Belushi ordered a room service meal for the last time) before entering Beverly Hills' Rodeo Drive, where the stars shop for Gucci, Armani and Versace.

No trip could be complete without the sight of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel (seen in Pretty Woman) or taking a snap of the Hollywood hilltop sign - and this excursion didn't disappoint.

But be warned - where there is glitter there is also grime. Adair writes: "This isn't the planet's prettiest city. Too many parking lots, scattered wasteland, crumbling shopfronts and welfare cases."

To get a fuller picture of Hollywood life, book some cheap travel insurance and head to the States.
