cheap travel insurance customers may be among those cramming as much as they can into a long-haul break.
According to travel magazine Wanderlust, increasing numbers of holidaymakers are planning trips further from home, but for shorter periods.
Dan Linstead, the publication's editor, explained: "You'll find people doing ten days in Dubai or ten days in Thailand rather than a fortnight if that's the way that they can have the level of accommodation and experience that they are after."
He added that a disappointing British summer had built up people's desire for sunshine, encouraging more ambitious travel plans.
Comparison website Flight Centre listed Dubai, Thailand, Egypt, Antigua and Australia as the top five destinations people are planning to travel to this winter.
It predicted that Thailand is likely to emerge as a popular family location, with warm weather, low food and drink prices and a number of child-friendly resorts.
