Visitors to Rockhampton in Queensland, recently found to be one of the top ten towns in the state, could first buy one-way travel insurance.
According to the Morning Bulletin, the number of bookings made for Rockhampton through accommodation website Wotif.com made it one of the most popular destinations in Queensland, which could be explained through the abundance of activities available in the town.
Rockhampton is also a transport hub often used by tourists and other backpackers to get from one area of Queensland to another.
Alan Chamberlain, chief executive officer of Capricorn Tourism, told the Morning Bulletin: "It's really what people look for in a holiday destination - somewhere they can get away and have a quiet place. Being quiet is a strength for us."
Visitors to Rockhampton can enjoy the Koorana Crocodile Farm and the Fitzroy River, and could buy
online travel insurance to protect themselves against mishaps along the way.
The survey ranked Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Cairns as the three most popular areas in the state overall.
Cairns is immensely popular among backpackers as one of the best routes to the Great Barrier Reef.
