People planning a trip in and around Australia could benefit from
online travel insurance in the wake of changes to Qantas services.
As the global economic downturn affects the airline industry, Qantas is to cancel direct services between Sydney and Beijing, while flights between Melbourne and Shanghai will also cease.
The airline will instead increase services from Sydney to Shanghai to a daily service which will provide more options for passengers hoping to travel from Australia to the Orient.
Alan Joyce, chief executive of Qantas, said: "We are reluctantly making changes to our China and India schedules, but will continue to offer significant capacity into both countries as they remain important business and leisure markets."
Despite the reduced access to China and India, however, backpackers still have good access to South America from Australia, with direct flights leaving Sydney for Buenos Aires several times each week.
Backpacker travel insurance could help tourists in the event of flight cancellations or delays.
According to the airline's website, Qantas was founded in 1920 and was originally known as the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Limited.
