New research from American Express Insurance has revealed that take-up of
cheap travel insurance remained steady in December last year.
The industry had been concerned that Britons would react to the global financial crisis by cutting back on holidays and backpacking trips this year, but this has not been the case with many people apparently considering an overseas trip to be a necessity. Indeed, the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) has found that more people are considering trips beyond Europe owing to the poor value of the pound against the euro.
Chris Rolland, head of American Express, said: "We have seen no evidence to suggest Britons will be foregoing their winter breaks this year despite economic conditions forcing people to pull the reins in on their spending habits."
All travellers are advised to seek
online travel insurance, as without it they risk substantial expenses should something happen while they are overseas.
Travellers should also make sure that the policy they buy covers them for all the activities they plan to do on their trip.
