The necessity of taking out
online travel insurance before heading abroad was reiterated last weekend (April 25th) following a hot air balloon crash in Egypt.
A total of 13 foreign tourists, including two Brits, were injured in the accident, which took place over the city of Luxor.
It is believed the accident happened when the balloon hit a mobile phone mast.
However, AFP reports French consular sources suggest overloading may have been to blame, causing the gondola to become detached from the balloon.
It is not the first time tourists have been caught up in balloon accidents in Egypt this year, prompting BBC correspondent Christian Fraser to speculate tighter legislation of balloon companies.
This may be needed to prevent future
worldwide travel insurance claims.
He said: "The problem appears to be the number of balloon companies that are working in the area - all of them competing on price.
"So far there have been no deaths but in the past the government has been forced to ground the balloons while it investigates safety."
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises travellers to Egypt should take out comprehensive insurance before going and check the policy covers all activities they wish to undertake.
