A new study has revealed this month that an impressive beach in South Africa is among the top ten in the world.
Holiday magazine Conde Nast Traveller pinpointed the Hermanus beach stretch on the country's Western Cape as one of the most desirable for holidaymakers and backpackers alike.
The small resort is championed by the magazine as a prime location for any surfing enthusiasts looking to catch some waves, while the potential for whale-spotting was also praised.
"They come in so close that you can watch them from the cliff tops," the magazine claimed.
Travellers were also informed by the study that the best time to visit the resort is between June and December, although the weather becomes extremely hot in the region as Christmas draws in.
Anyone looking to get involved in water sports while in Hermanus is also well advised to make sure that they are covered for such activities by their backpacker travel insurance policy.
The largest of the individual Hermanus beaches is Grotto Beach, which has been proclaimed as a "Blue Flag" beach, meaning its preservation as a world heritage site is ensured.
Other beaches of note include Voelkip, Onrus, Kammabaai and Langbaai.
