According to new research from credit card company Visa, tourism is growing around the world but travel to the Rainbow Nation is particularly popular.
Charles Niehaus, the general manager of Visa in South Africa, says that there was a 5.5 per cent increase in arrivals to South Africa in 2008.
He predicts that the country will continue to see a rise in visitors, perhaps including one way insurance policyholders, despite the downturn in the economy.
The report stated that UK holidaymakers "continue to be by far the largest contributors to tourism revenues in South Africa".
A dramatic rise in visitor numbers is predicted for next year, when the nation hosts the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
Football matches will be played at sites across the country, including the Mbombela Stadium, which is surrounded by spectacular game reserves and the Kruger National Park.
