Almost two in five (37 per cent) of Brits have taken part in daredevil activities abroad, according to recent figures, showing that Britons abroad acquire new-found bravery under the sun.
However, research from moneysupermarket.com has found that as many as one in eight tourists simply do not take up holiday insurance.
Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at moneysupermarket.com, said: "Our research reveals the daredevil streak in many people.
"Yet, with the thrill of jumping out of a plane or negotiating white-water rapids, some holidaymakers do not give a second thought to checking they are adequately covered, or - more shockingly - they take part knowing they are uninsured."
It has been advised that holiday makers give their insurance the once-over for extreme sports before taking part in such activities, as the risk of a hefty expense is a high one.
However, covering a holiday for extreme sports needn't be expensive, as Mr Gerrard suggested that finding a small company could save you scores of pounds and keep you well covered.
A small firm could cover you for bungee jumping or rafting for £15 or less, compared to almost £80 charged by some of the major insurers, it has been noted.
