Backpackers planning to explore New Zealand by bicycle should first get hold of
online travel insurance.
The Marlborough Express reports that a Japanese agricultural student has begun a cycling tour of New Zealand's South Island to explore agricultural practices in the region. Kojiro Morinaga brought a bike with him from Japan when he arrived in New Zealand last summer. After spending six months working in an Auckland sushi restaurant, he strapped a couple of bags to his bike and headed south.
Arriving in Picton he has begun his travels carrying basic clothing, a tent, a sleeping bag and a cooker on either side of his wheels, and he has his sights set on Christchurch.
Hardly a keen cyclist before leaving Japan, he barely used the bike even during his stay in Auckland, but he has decided it is the best way to explore farming practices in South Island, despite finding the roads pretty frightening at times.
Backpackers should buy
