Young backpackers planning to head to Queenstown on New Zealand's South Island in search of adventure have the option of buying
online travel insurance.
The Southland Times reports that authorities in Queenstown are looking to appeal more strongly to younger tourists searching for exciting and adventurous activities, as these people have been less affected by the global downturn.
Queenstown has been trying to appeal to wealthier visitors looking for calmer pursuits but these people have been affected more severely by the economic problems and are travelling less.
Graham Budd, marketing manager for Destination Queenstown, told the paper: "The youth market is holding up quite well and is itself unaffected ... by the economic situation. I think it's time to go back to our core."
Queenstown has a global reputation as a centre for extreme sports as it offers bungee jumping, white-water rafting, skiing and a host of other activities that tend to appeal to younger backpackers with
cheap travel insurance.
