Backpacker travel insurance is advised for people looking to stay in an environmentally-conscious hostel in New Zealand.
The Marlborough Express reports that the Lazy Shag backpackers hostel in Kaikoura, New Zealand, could be an ideal place for environmentally-conscious travellers with
online travel insurance.
The hostel has reduced its hot water bill by over 90 per cent by feeding its boiler with used cooking oil taken from restaurants and takeaways in the local area. The new fuel also helps reduce emissions while providing low-cost heating and hot water for backpacker guests.
David Stanford, owner of the hostel, told the paper: "It is part of operating a business in Kaikoura; our customers expect that we reduce our impact on the environment. And this is certainly one to way to achieve this."
The hostel has reduced the number of kilowatt hours it uses in a year to heat water by a staggering figure of nearly 49,000, and the innovation could help attract more eco-conscious young people to New Zealand.
