Backpackers should equip themselves with
online travel insurance if they plan to follow in the footsteps of senior adrenalin junkie Duncan O'Brien.
According to fourcorners.co.nz, the octogenarian American tourist became one of the oldest people to have a go at the notorious Shotover Canyon Swing in New Zealand's Queenstown recently. Visiting the country for a fortnight, Mr O'Brien was keen to take the plunge on the attraction that over 10,000 backpackers voted the best experience in New Zealand at the Golden Backpack awards.
Matt Hollyer, general manager of Shotover Canyon Swing, told the website: "He would have to be one of the oldest customers we've had and one of the tallest too - he was well over six foot three!"
The ride itself involves plunging from a platform positioned nearly 110 metres in the air and swinging across the canyon face at speeds of 150km per hour.
Mr O'Brien emerged from the experience joking that the organisers were right in saying he would need another pair of underwear afterwards.
Backpackers should make sure they have the right
gap year travel insurance for experiences in New Zealand.
