Backpacker travel insurance is an option for so-called 'flashpackers' planning a stay in a new upmarket complex in Queenstown, New Zealand.
A Nomads backpacker hostel will occupy part of the complex, while guests will have easy access to retail facilities, all of which is intended to appeal to flashpackers - travellers seeking a range of experiences but who have more money to spend.
The hostel itself is due to open in July 2009 and will offer nearly 80 rooms, including 27 ensuite king rooms, while more traditional backpackers will be able to choose from a series of dormitories with up to ten beds in each.
Martin Barwood, commercial and industrial sales consultant for Bayleys Queenstown, the company marketing the lease of the retail outlets, said: "Typically flashpackers stay an average of 3.4 nights in Queenstown and will spend somewhere in the vicinity of NZ$1100 (£423) on tourism and adventure activities, food, beverage, souvenirs and entertainment."
