Backpackers heading to New Zealand and hoping to take part in the 2009 Wattyl Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge could prepare by buying one-way travel insurance.
On November 28th this year, as the New Zealand summer approaches its height, more than 11,000 cyclists from all over the world are expected to gather on the North Island to take part in the race.
The event itself involves circumnavigating a 160km route around Lake Taupo with cyclists able to enter either as solo riders or in part of a relay team, while the ride will raise money for Heart Children.
Doug Simmons, chairman of the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge Trust, said: "As always, it's a busy time of year in Taupo so we encourage participants to book their accommodation early - there is an excellent range of motels and backpackers in Taupo or the Cycle Challenge organisers are able to assist with access to private and holiday homes."
People can always buy
cheap travel insurance before they head overseas on any trip, although recent research from Post Office Travel Insurance revealed a quarter of Britons are planning not to buy it to save money.
