According to Australian news site News.com.au, a New Zealand-based inventor is planning to offer flights to the public using his new jetpack technology.
The news site reports that Glenn Martin has devised a personal tie-on aircraft containing a two-litre engine which he said can reach heights of up to 50 metres.
Martin Aircraft Company's chief executive Richard Lauder told the news network that "ultimately we want to take it to Australia, the US and the rest of the globe too".
Mr Lauder said he expected public flights to be available from early next year.
According to Martinjetpack.com, the mini helicopter contains a number of safety features to protect users including a parachute and a roll cage to protect flyers in the event of a fall.
