New Zealand campervan firm Maui, Britz and Backpacker has committed to improving national recycling programmes by installing new facilities in Christchurch and Auckland, reports scoop.co.nz.
The firm's move comes in the wake of feedback from Tourism New Zealand showing that the lack of recycling in the country is one of the biggest grievances held by visiting backpackers and other foreign nationals. In response the government has launched the LoveNZ - Recycle with Care programme, which Maui, Britz and Backpacker is looking to embrace.
Kate Meldum, general marketing manager for Maui, Britz and Backpacker, told scoop.co.nz: "We view it as a fantastic way of assisting our customers with appropriate places to dispose their waste and help reinforce New Zealand's clean and green image."
New Zealander recycled nearly 15 per cent more waste in 2007 than they did in 2005, but there is always room for improvement. The country is hugely popular amongst backpackers, many of whom are very environmentally conscious.
With natural beauty also being one of New Zealand's strongest selling points, it is keen to preserve that beauty through recycling.
