Visitors planning a trip to a new hostel which Youth Hostel Association (YHA) is planning for Stewart Island in New Zealand, could benefit from
cheap travel insurance.
The Southland Times reports that plans for the 54-bed hostel have been put forward more to symbolise the pioneering spirit of the company on its 75th birthday than to cater for a specific regional demand.
There is a limited YHA presence on Stewart Island, but the relatively remote location is also being viewed as an appropriate symbolic site for the hostel, which is rumoured to carry a price tag of just under $3.5 million (£1.25 million).
A range of customers, including regular backpackers and school children on field trips, would be catered for.
Mark Wells, chief executive of the YHA, told the paper: "We have been quite sensitive to being able to accommodate each of these sets of potential customers at the same time, but we're not expecting there to be a huge overlap."
Stewart Island is situated off the coast of New Zealand's South Island and is a popular hiking destination. Visitors have the option of buying
worldwide travel insurance.
