According to a new survey from Alliance & Leicester International (Alil), New Zealand is the best place in the world to live as it offers the highest quality of life and the best prices.
The country, increasingly popular amongst backpackers and young travellers, has a top tax band of 39 per cent which undercuts Australia by over ten per cent, while it offers low prices on the cost of living and average property prices just under £106,000. In addition, mild weather and a low crime rate are considered a big pull.
Simon Ripton, acting managing director of Alliance & Leicester International, said: "New Zealand does on average appear to offer a high quality of life at a reasonable cost - attributes that many people value in their country of residence."
New Zealand's cultural similarities with the UK are also thought to be popular amongst Britons, while the stunning landscape is especially attractive for backpackers.
