Sports fans planning a trip to New Zealand in 2011 to watch the Rugby World Cup have the option of getting
online travel insurance before they leave home.
The Nelson Mail reports that the town of Nelson, on New Zealand's South Island, is looking to be one of the country's 'after-party' towns during the competition and will be hosting at least two of the games.
Communications company Splash Associates has called for businesses in the town to increase their investment in accommodation and activities in order to maximise the potential revenue that could be brought in by the competition.
The event could attract a surge of rugby fans from around the world, many of whom may have bought
gap year travel insurance.
Siobhan Hanley, of Splash Associates, told the paper: "This is going to be the biggest sporting event in New Zealand. Four billion people will be looking at the country."
In related sporting news, Deutsche Presse-Agentur reports that the New Zealand tourism industry is hoping to sell more than 1.5 million ski passes this year as many slopes have had early snowfall.
