A Scottish man who left his life as a dairy farmer for a more exciting career wrestling crocodiles in New Zealand provides a good example of why
one way travel insurance is a good idea.
Brian Copland, who left Dumfries in 2003, hit the headlines last week when he was involved in some high-altitude reptile drama.
Mr Copland, who now works at Butterfly Creek Zoo in Auckland, was helping to transport two crocodiles from Australia to their new home at the New Zealand sanctuary when one came round from a heavy sedative, shook off his ropes and began thrashing around.
The movements were so forceful that the Royal New Zealand Air Force Hercules jet carrying the crocs started to shudder.
Mr Copland's boss and Butterfly Creek Zoo general manager John Dowsett said: "It got pretty exciting on board, that's for sure.
"We gave them drugs, a muscle relaxant to calm them down, and that seemed to work but boy, are they powerful."
Backpackers hoping to see the pair for themselves can find the zoo just minutes from Auckland International Airport but are advised to take out comprehensive
worldwide travel insurance before wrestling with crocs themselves.
