The discovery of a car full of stolen goods in Invercargill, New Zealand, serves as a reminder that people can buy
gap year travel insurance to protect their possessions.
It is thought that many of the watches and jewellery items recovered from the stolen vehicle were taken from tourists who were targeted earlier this year, a fact that could be of interest to those considering taking out
online travel insurance.
Detective Lisa Watt confirmed that police have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the thefts but are appealing to the public to find the owners of the expensive items.
"Some of this belonged to tourists who were holidaying at Queenstown backpacker accommodation burgled in late March," Ms Watt said.
Other finds include a computer, a camera and various MP3 players thought to have been taken from houses in Arthurs Point and Kelvin Heights in a similar timeframe.
Meanwhile, an article about European hostels on Cleveland.com recommends that all backpackers keep their money and valuable documents in a money belt or secure locker.
