Adelaide Now reports that a local woman narrowly escaped with her life when she went for a trek on the Shania Twain track close to Wanaka in New Zealand's South Island.
The woman headed out without taking any basic precautions and was without food, extra clothing or even a map. She didn't tell anyone where she was going either and as a result spent nine days trapped in a hut on the difficult trail with only cereal packets to sustain her.
Phillip Melchior, of New Zealand Land Search and Rescue, told the news agency: "I couldn't for the life of me tell you what she was thinking by heading off for a trip like this."
Aged in her 20s, the unnamed woman was eventually discovered by another passing hiker.
