The advice comes from Amelie Hurst, spokesperson at TripAdvisor, who said: "Several high profile cases in recent months have highlighted the fact that Britons dont always stop to consider the consequences that their overseas behaviour could have."
She advised those planning a trip to an unfamiliar country to look into to local laws and customs to ensure they stay safe abroad.
Her comments follow the release of a new report on British Behaviour Abroad from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
A key concern highlighted by the study was the suggestion holidaymakers from the UK are continuing to get in trouble overseas, particularly in incidents fuelled by drink or drugs.
