Brushing up on foreign language skills and buying
backpacker travel insurance could be two essentials for those hoping for a more authentic experience on a trip abroad.
According to learning holiday specialist GoLearnTo.com, revising just a few words of the local language will help travellers get off the tourist trail and enjoy a more alternative break.
Vanessa Lenson, the firm's founder and chief executive, suggested the UK lacks a culture of language learning, which could be behind Britons' reluctance to try to speak a foreign language abroad.
"Quite often people don't realise that they can combine lessons with leisure where you take a few language lessons abroad as part of a holiday," she noted.
Her comments follow the release of a new report from comparison site travelsupermarket.com, which revealed 59 per cent of British holidaymakers refuse to embrace local languages when abroad.
