Gap year travel insurance customers may be pleased to hear a call from one holiday operator for the tourism industry to wake up to climate change.
According to The Co-operative Travel, operators need to work together to ensure they take a common approach to sustainability and global warming.
Mike Greenacre, the company's managing director, said taking a green approach does not need to be imposed on people, but can be done through partnerships with other businesses encouraging each to make their own contribution.
He praised travel association Abta's Tourism 2023 Vision pledge announced at The Travel Convention, which urged tourism firms to plan together for the industry's future.
"We are going to make sure that the work that has already been started is much more centrally positioned within the industry," noted Mr Greenacre.
His comments follow an announcement from TUI Travel that it will be introducing the Boeing 787 aircraft into its fleet, which burns 20 per cent less fuel than other aircrafts.
