According to a survey conducted by the Association of British Insurers (Abta), more than half of Britons said they preferred to receive a postcard than a text message or email.
It predicts that this summer will see over 130 million postcards sent, 28 million in the UK alone.
The research suggests that posted communication tends to have more sentimental value than an email or text as 26 per cent of respondents say they keep postcards.
Donna Dawson, a psychologist, told ABTA that cards represent a "physical reminder that someone has gone to the time and trouble of selecting, writing and posting you something".
Meanwhile, Abta here predicts that as the Met Office admits that the UK is to face a wetter and colder summer than expected, travel agents could see a rise in demand for last-minute holidays.
